Words are important. They can tear down or heal. They can reveal the truth or attempt to conceal a lie. But in the long wrong the lies will be revealed. That’s why attempted cover ups are useless. It is better to confess than to cover up a lie. Truth stands the test of time. God’s truth last forever.
WWW stands for the world wide web. But we don’t need to type www when looking up a website any more. Proverbs tells us about another set of www that are too easily forgotten. There isn’t anything flashy about a wise life. There is a lot of common sense and hard work. The wise person doesn’t just dream big but do nothing to fulfill those dreams. The wise person works hard, takes care of what he has and lives a sensible life. That’s better than thinking too much of yourself, expecting everything to be given to you and have nothing.
Why are we so easily drawn to the evil or the wicked instead of to the good and right? Could it be because of our sinful nature, or because we want to fit in and be like everyone else? The good news is God in Christ loves and forgives us. God breaks the hold sin has on us and shows us how to live. Why? Because He loves us and wants the best for us.
“It is better to remain silent and be considered a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” I heard this repeatedly as a kid growing up. I guess I must have talked too much. Why don’t we like a Scrooge? Because they are stingy, selfish people. They only look out for themselves and end up losing in the long run. The generous, those who look out for the needs of others, are blessed. The wise give their time, ability and resources to help others.
There is a big contrast between Good and evil, between integrity and dishonesty. The Christian faith shows up in how the Christian lives, or at least it should. God’s Spirit helps us live life’s of faithfulness, honesty and integrity. If that is not the case, we need to reevaluate how we are living.
Kindness,Graciousness and Godliness lead to life. The opposite choices lead to death. It is so easy to think we can do what we want and God will bless us. But it doesn’t work that way. God shows us us the way life works best. It calls for a life of faith in God and faithfulness to his commands. It’s that simple.
Silence is often missing from our lives. Yet we need to learn the right times to be silent. Silence is better than useless criticism. Silence is essential when it comes to keeping a confidence. Having a friend who will not only listen to our deepest thoughts and concerns and keep them to himself is golden. Being that person should be each of our personal goal.
