When Christians receive the Lord’s Supper (Communion), they are united with God by faith in Jesus and are also united in Christ. Despite our differences, we are one in faith. Unity is not uniformity. Unity gives us strength and common purpose in following, serving and spreading the Gospel of Jesus.
We can run from or run to something. Paul tells us to run from anything or anyone that would be a ‘god’ in our lives. Run from things that would try to deceive and control us. Run to God who loves and forgives us.
We all face temptations. They come from many different sources and in a variety of formats. But they all have one goal in mind, to lead us away from God and His way. We need help to defeat temptations. God is ready, willing and able to help us if we will ask Him. God has the power to help us defeat every temptation that comes our way.
We should learn from our own mistakes. If we are wise we will learn from the mistakes of others. The Israelites suffered for their idolatry and immortality. These events were recorded in the Old Testament so that the Corinthians and we could learn from the past and not repeat their sins. It’s better to learn a lesson the easy way than the hard way.
The Christian life is like a running a marathon in the sense that it is not a short sprint or even a couple mile jog. Faith is for life. Christians are urged to finish the race in faith, running with God and fellow Christians. Keep running. It’s too soon to quit.
Connections are important. Jesus came to reconnect us with God. God sends us to connect with others so that we can help them become connected to God. That requires putting others first, getting to know them and growing a strong relationship with them. Is there someone you need to try to connect with today?
The Apostle Paul could have demanded certain rights and privileges for preaching the Gospel, but He didn’t. Paul was called and compelled by Christ to preach. We too are called to faith and sent to bring the love of Christ to the people around us. It’s that simple and straight forward. Are we answering the call?
The freedom we have in Christ is not license to do things that will offend a weak faith or cause another person to sin. Don’t put stumbling blocks in the way of others. It is better to give up something personally than to lead another person to sin.
While people can make a God out of almost anything and believe in many different gods, Christians believe there is only one God who is the creator and giver of life. All other ‘gods’ are powerless, wannabe gods.
Both knowledge and love are important. But when it comes to relationships, love is more important. We should treat people with love and respect, not knocking them on the head with the things that we know or think we know.
