Please join me in reading through the New Testament in 2018 starting with Matthew chapter 1 on January 1. The readings for January are printed in the Peace Newsletter on the church website at http://www.Peaceaa.net
I hope you and your family have a joyful Christmas as we receive again the gift of God’s Son. God with us. God for us. I will be taking a break from this until January 1st. I invite you to join me in ready through the New Testament in 2018 starting in the Gospel of Matthew. I’ll try to post my readings one day ahead of time.
Be sure to receive and treasure the gift of Jesus Christ this Christmas. He is the one gift that lasts forever.
The Psalm tells us it is good to give Praise to God. Be sure you do that. Praise and give thanks to God for the gift of His Son, for forgiveness and new life this Christmas.
One winter when I was driving home after exams I got caught in a blizzard that shut down the highway and had to get off in a very small town. There literally was no room in the Holiday Inn, the only place to stay there. Temperatures were going to fall below zero that night so i couldn’t stay in my car. I needed a shelter. Fortunately the Americans Legion hall was open as a shelter for stranded travelers. The place was packed. They ran out of pillows and blankets, so I tried to sleep on the cement floor. I was thankful for the shelter I had that night. Are we thankful for the shelter God gives us? Do we trust Him to help us? We should! God is our shelter, our refuge. The good news of Christmas is God loves us. God is for us. God is always with us.
Before creation there was God. Before the first Christmas there was God. Before we were born there was God. God is before everything. The wise person gives honor and praise to God before anyone or anything else.
God’s love is unending. It never fails. God promised a king from the line of David to rule over His people forever. Jesus is a descendant of David. He was born in Bethlehem, the city of David. He defeated sin and death and rules forever. His unending love last forever.
Jerusalem was the capitol of ancient Israel and the home of the Temple, a reminder that God lived among His people. The Psalmist tells us that people from all countries are drawn to Jerusalem because God calls them. He is Lord of All. The birth of Jesus is good news for all people because He invites everyone to follow Him.
David asked God to bend down to help him in this Psalm. Christmas is one week away. God answers that prayer the first Christmas when He bent down and Jesus was born. God entered our world in a very personal way. God still bends down to hear and help us. He promises to always be with us.
God acted in the history of Israel to restore the nation on repeated occasions. God restores us to a right relationship with Him repeatedly and gives us peace. But the peace doesn’t last when we are disobedient, unfaithful. Then guilt destroys our peace and we need to be forgiven again. Restore us again, Lord.
