Did Jonah learn his lesson? Jonah complained that he did not want to go to Nineveh because he knew God was a full of mercy and compassion, ready to forgive and not destroy. So he pouted, complained and said he wanted to die.
When Jonah went outside the city to wait and see what would happen, God caused a ‘kickayon’ or castor oil plant to grow up and give him shade. Jonah had a spiritual stomachache. Then God sent a cut worm to eat through the stem. The plant dried up and died.
When Jonah complained about the plant, God said that Jonah felt sorry for the plant. Shouldn’t God care about the thousands of people in Nineveh? God used the kickayon plant to try to kick some sense in Jonah.
